There's a power outage at the Pastore Complex in Cranston. That's the home of several state offices, including the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, the Dept. of Labor and Training, and the Dept. of Corrections. All are closed to the public, according to the governor's office. Power was lost at around 10:30 and crews are working to restore it. There's no word yet about what caused the outage.
As a result of the outage, the DOC will not be allowing any inmate visits today. Unemployment offices are closed. And the DMV is closed at this location.
Here are more details about what's closed because of the outage, courtesy of Gov. Gina Raimondo's office:
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV):
The DMV in Cranston is closed. It is recommended that those needing to use DMV facilities visit locations in Woonsocket, Wakefield, Middletown and Warren. Extra staff will be on-site at these locations to handle the expected increase in volume. Also, RI AAA will process license and registration renewals for non-members as well as members while the Cranston location is closed.
Department of Corrections (DOC):
The DOC is canceling all visits with inmates today.
Department of Labor and Training (DLT):
DLT is canceling all walk-ins, appointments and hearings for TDI, TCI, unemployment benefits and other DLT activities.
