Voters in parts of Portsmouth, Tiverton and Bristol will pick a new state senator Tuesday.

The vacancy in Senate District 11 was created when Christopher Ottiano resigned in October to take a job at Neighborhood Health Plan.

The candidates running to succeed Ottiano are Republican John Pagliarini, Democrat Jim Seveney and independent Gregory Steven Blythe.

With Ottiano’s exit, there are only four Republicans in the 38-member Senate.

Polls close at 8 Tuesday evening.
