Police fire tear gas at protest against Mali's president

Published Fri Jun 19 2020 19:29:59 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)
Police have fired tear gas at protesters demanding Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita’s resignation. Tens of thousands took to the streets Friday for the second time this month in the capital of Bamako. Demonstrators are calling for the 75-year-old Keita to step down, accusing him of corruption and failing to end the seven-year Islamic insurgency that has devastated the West African country's economy. Keita was re-elected to a second, five-year term and is due to leave office in 2023.
