Governor Gina Raimondo has selected Colonel Christopher P. Callahan as the new Adjutant General of Rhode Island and the Commanding General of the Rhode Island National Guard.

Callahan will replace Major General Kevin McBride, who retired in June. Raimondo describes him as an experienced serviceman after 25 years and various positions in the National Guard.

"He has a long career of proven, tested commitment to our state and this nation, and the skills we need to propel the Rhode Island National Guard into the future to help protect against 21st century threats," Raimondo said in a prepared statement.

Callahan's selection was recommended by the Commanding General Search Committee, a group led by Lieutenant General Reginald Centracchio (Ret).

Callahan says he is "honored to have been chosen to serve my state and this country in this role."
