The Rhode Island Supreme Court has approved disgraced former Mayor Charles Moreau’s request for legal fees dating back to his days as mayor and before he was convicted on federal corruption charges. The high court overturned a Superior Court decision that denied both Moreau and the Central Falls legal fees for their challenge to the state law that allowed the city to be put into receivership.

With Chief Justice Paul Suttell dissenting on part of the judgement, justices Gilbert  Indeglia, Francis Flaherty and William Robinson ruled that Moreau and the city council  members deserve to have their legal bills covered. Justice Maureen McKenna Goldberg did not participate in the decision; her husband, city council lawyer Robert Goldberg was one of the lawyers seeking fees.
