Barber offers hope in Peruvian barrios devastated by virus

Published Fri Jun 19 2020 23:52:15 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)
A barber in Peru’s capital is giving free haircuts once a week in the poor neighborhoods suffering most from the recession caused by the coronavirus lockdown. Josué Yacahuanca says some clients at first don’t believe that there is no fee. The 21-year-old barber says he wants them to have a bit of hope looking in the mirror after a clean cut. The barber says he had a rough childhood, so he sees himself in the young people he’s helping. Peru has been among Latin America’s hardest hit by the virus. The lockdown has stretched on for nearly 100 days now, leaving masses of people out of work.
