House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello says the all-night session that closed out the legislative session will not happen again on his watch. Lawmakers concluded their 2016 session after sunrise on Saturday.
The House wrapped up its business after 5:30 in the morning Saturday, and the Senate shortly after 6. Speaker Mattiello calls the all-night session frustrating, and he says it will not happen again.
The speaker says he was thinking about calling it a night at about 10:30 Friday evening, and bringing lawmakers back next week.
He says the House Republican leader agreed with Democrats that it made more sense to finish that night. Mattiello says things then took longer than expected, and lawmakers reached a point of no return.
